During the rise of the MeToo movement in India last year, a television actress of foreign nationality publicly accused a well-known Bollywood director of inappropriate behaviour during a professional meeting.
According to her account, she had visited the filmmaker’s office to discuss a potential role in an upcoming project. During the interaction, the director allegedly crossed professional boundaries and attempted to kiss her. She also claimed that he hinted she could secure the lead role in his film if she agreed to his conditions.
The actress later shared that the situation left her deeply uncomfortable. At one point, she even questioned whether complying might help her escape the moment and gain the opportunity she had been hoping for. Ultimately, she decided against it and left the meeting instead.
She explained that she only felt empowered to reveal the incident publicly when the MeToo movement encouraged more people to speak out about similar experiences involving powerful individuals in the entertainment industry.
Despite her allegations, the actress reportedly hasn’t received much work since coming forward. Meanwhile, the director—whose latest film failed to perform well—has largely continued working without facing major consequences, partly due to the lack of concrete evidence and what critics describe as the industry’s tendency to overlook such accusations.
In a related development, a well-known and outspoken leading actress has reportedly confided to friends that she too had an uncomfortable encounter with the same filmmaker several years ago. The incident allegedly happened during a script narration at his office when she was still new to the industry.
Sources claim the actress was shocked by his behaviour but immediately confronted him and walked out. However, when the director was publicly accused last year, she chose not to share her own experience.
The reason, according to those close to her, is that she did not want such an incident to overshadow her achievements or become the defining story of her career.
Some friends have reportedly encouraged her to reconsider, suggesting that her voice could strengthen the earlier accusation and help bring more credibility to the claims made by the lesser-known actress. Still, the star is said to be firm in her decision to remain silent on the matter.
