Rajeev Masand and his Contribution to “B-town Blinds”
Within his column for Open Magazine, Masand didn’t only review films or interview celebrities; he also published occasional “blind items” — anonymous gossip pieces that referred to undisclosed insiders in the industry, hinting at alleged controversies, backstage drama, casting fights, scandals or personality clashes. Because these «blinds» didn’t name people directly, they relied on innuendo and hints.
Masand published Blind items in Open Magazine from June 2011 – June 2020.
Masand faced extreme criticism after the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, when many believed some blind items written by Masand were among the toxic gossip fueling harassment campaigns in the industry
Eventually, in January 2021, Masand shifted from Critic/Journalist to a Talent-Management Executive (COO at Dharma Cornerstone)
