The strong critical and box-office response to a dark comedy last year reportedly made a young A-list actor rethink a choice he had made earlier. The actor had declined the project when it was first offered by a director who had previously delivered one of his most appreciated films. At the time, he apparently felt the script was too unconventional and risky to work as a mainstream success—but the film’s eventual reception proved otherwise.

The role ultimately went to another actor, who earned widespread praise for trusting his instincts and taking on the challenging part. The success of the film significantly boosted his standing in the industry.

Fortunately for the young star, the filmmaker was not offended by the earlier rejection. When the actor heard that the director was developing another project, he reportedly reached out and asked to be considered for the lead role. The situation was made easier by the involvement of a producer who is a mutual friend and had also backed their previous collaboration.

Although the script for the new project is still being developed, the actor and producer were reportedly eager to announce the collaboration early in order to secure the director’s commitment. They are aware that he is currently juggling several scripts and already has obligations to make a film for another producer, so they wanted to move quickly.

The director is said to be planning to begin work on this large-scale period film around March or April, given the extensive preparation it will require. Before starting that project, however, he hopes to complete a smaller film.
