A couple of years ago, a highly anticipated sports drama was announced with one of Bollywood’s most popular actors in the lead. The star had been enjoying an impressive run at the box office, making the project even more exciting for fans. When the film finally went on floors earlier this year, the makers surprised everyone by revealing that the actor’s wife — herself one of the industry’s most respected actresses — would also be part of the cast.
While sources connected to the project claimed that her role would be substantial, industry buzz suggested that her appearance might actually be a brief one. Despite that, reports indicated that the actress had charged her usual full fee for the part.
The development reportedly has an interesting backstory. The actor’s previous film had turned out to be a massive box-office success. Along with a hefty signing amount of ₹16 crore, he was also promised a 20% share in the film’s profits. However, months after the movie’s release, the actor had allegedly still not received his share of the earnings.
Insiders say that when the actor repeatedly raised the issue, the filmmaker behind the project reportedly responded by saying that the complete profits had not yet been finalised. During this time, the director had already moved on to another film, which further complicated matters.
This situation is believed to have delayed the shooting schedule of the sports drama. Eventually, the actor reportedly decided to resolve the issue by involving the studio directly. While agreeing to begin work on the new project, he is said to have placed certain conditions.
One of those conditions was that his wife should be cast as the female lead. Given her status as a top actress, she would be paid her standard fee and would also join the project as a co-producer, giving her a share in the film’s profits.
Although the studio reportedly found itself in a difficult position, it ultimately agreed to the arrangement so that production could begin. Interestingly, the actor is said to have maintained that his wife’s fee could later be adjusted once he received the profit share owed to him from his earlier blockbuster.
