There’s growing chatter in Bollywood about a filmmaker who has managed to pull off an unusual casting combination at a time when it’s difficult to find two stars who haven’t previously shared screen space. The director, currently working on a full-on masala remake of a well-known hit from the 1970s, has paired a hugely popular A-list actor with a respected leading actress who had recently taken a short break from films.

Industry insiders say the choice caught many people off guard. The actress isn’t usually the first name that comes up for loud, commercial entertainers. Apparently, she wasn’t initially being considered for the role either. However, things changed when her management reached out to ask if she could be evaluated for the part. That enquiry reportedly prompted the filmmaker to start thinking about casting her seriously.

In the film, the actress will portray a schoolteacher. But her appearance will be very different from the teacher character the same director presented in an earlier movie. In that film, the teacher’s look became extremely memorable, especially because of the way she was styled—flowing saris and the pallu dramatically fluttering in the wind. For the new project, however, the teacher will have a more modern style, with outfits said to include short jackets and light, summery dresses.

It certainly makes one wonder—where were these stylish teachers when we were in school?
