The year 2017 started on less than an ideal note for this award-winning composer-duo as they found themselves in the midst of a plagiarism row. While the hookline of their most recent chartbuster, a peppy romance number that featured in a major motion picture by one of the country’s biggest banner, struck a chord with fans, rumour mills suggested that the song was directly lifted from a Japanese animation series. At first, the duo was unable to react to the charges because they had acted at the behest of the film’s producer-director. One of them would go on to admit subsequently that the “similarities were just a co-incidence. The film was eventually a colossal dud at the box office, and no one cared about the song anymore, while the duo went on to serve many more hits at the movies.
