In earlier decades of Bollywood, it was quite common to see star mothers accompanying actresses to film sets, often interfering in everything from schedules to food arrangements. Over time, however, the industry changed and professional managers and secretaries began handling most of these responsibilities.

Interestingly, industry chatter now suggests that a similar situation may be resurfacing again. Two star mothers, in particular, are said to be creating difficulties for filmmakers because of their constant involvement in their children’s careers.

According to insiders, a newcomer actress whose recent film failed at the box office and her action-star co-actor from the same movie are facing this issue. Their mothers have reportedly become well-known in industry circles for their frequent interference.

Sources claim both women are extremely involved in every aspect of their children’s professional lives — from deciding what they wear and eat to commenting on scripts, scenes and dialogues. Although the actors themselves have professional teams guiding their careers, their mothers are said to attend script meetings and offer suggestions of their own.

One of the mothers is described as an aspiring socialite who claims to organise events, while the other is believed to have previously tried her hand at different aspects of filmmaking without much success. Despite their different backgrounds, the two are reportedly close friends.

Filmmakers are said to be increasingly cautious about signing the two actors because of this involvement. In one case, a producer who considered casting the young actor reportedly stepped back after learning that his mother planned to influence costume design decisions and even hoped to receive credit for it.

Meanwhile, the actress’s mother is said to keep a constant watch on her daughter’s daily routine, regularly contacting her team to ask about everything from her schedule to who she is meeting.

Industry observers feel that such over-involvement could end up hurting the young actors’ careers rather than helping them. Interestingly, both fathers — who have long been part of the film industry — are believed to take a more hands-off approach and allow their children to manage their work independently.
