The financial sting has apparently forced the studio to rethink its spending habits, and the first project feeling the heat is a flashy 3D sci-fi venture fronted by an action-loving superstar, once envisioned as a lavish spectacle.
Buzz is that the studio has slashed the film’s proposed budget dramatically, urging the filmmaker to deliver the ambitious project at a far leaner cost. Sources claim the message is blunt — trim the expenses or take the film to another banner willing to foot the bill.
For the writer-turned-director, who was also associated with one of the studio’s recent disappointments, the sudden belt-tightening has reportedly sparked serious anxiety. With the leading man in no mood to negotiate his remuneration and visual effects being a non-negotiable expense for a genre-heavy film, insiders say the creative team is scrambling to figure out how to scale down without diluting the spectacle
