A director known for his strong run of blockbuster films seems to have a rather unusual but effective way of extracting the best comic moments for his movies — by not depending entirely on his main cast. The filmmaker, famous for his larger-than-life style, reportedly turns to a group of talented strugglers to perform comedy scenes and try out different improvisations.
Once these jokes, gags, and sequences meet his approval, the actual cast is then called in and asked to perform them on screen. It is certainly an interesting method, and one that suggests some of the creative heavy lifting may be happening well before the stars step in. Looks like ghosts are not limited to writing after all.
